Could anyone enlighten me if they have experienced different colour puppies breeding the same dogs. I have a blue fawn whippet whose mother was black and father was fawn. My female is blue fawn and white (her brother was blue and white). They had a litter of 5 puppies, one blue fawn and white and 4 blue fawns. I was hoping for a blue and white from the litter. I am hoping for different colours but do not really know if I will get them as I have only bred them once before. Cany anyone enlighten me on this. Thanks.

Solid colour (in this case dilute) is dominant to fawn so can't be carried by either dog, nor can brindle. All pups produced from this breeding will also be dilute so no, there are no possible colours except blue fawn, with or without white.

Do I understand from your post that you have done a brother to sister mating twice?
If so you seem to have insufficient knowledge of genetics to be doing such close breeding. If you have not researched the colour question then how much research have you done into the history of your dogs?
Have you done extensive research into the health, faults and good points of all the relatives?
Such close breeding if carried out at all (it is not one usually carried out as it does not move you forward sideways or backward just recombines the same genes the parents have) should be extensively researched as any faults are more likely to occur and will also reduce the vigour of the offspring.
Upset by your reply, maybe my question wasn't put clear enough. Have never and would never breed brother and sister. My whippets are completely unrelated and I would never consider breeding any other way. Just wanted to ask the question of whether the colours would be different if they bred again as I have only ever bred one litter with these two whippets.

think thats what prompted Brainless' question...does sound as if you have done a brother/sister mating

Yep that is what it said.
I omitted to say my blue fawn whippet (mother black and father fawn) was the dog and the female was blue fawn and white (whose brother was blue and white). I mated the blue fawn dog with the blue fawn and white female, not brother. Will have to word things a bit better next time.

My appologies then :D There is a book on colour genetics for dog breeders by Roy Robinson. I have the inbreeeding one for small livestock by him which I found understandable.

I thought that too first time I read but then realised a solid would not be possible from two white marked dogs and had to re-read several times before understanding :D

My whippet,,,white / black parti (mother blue / father black) litter mate's all blue
His first bitch black ,,she had 2 blue, 3 white/ black pari , 2 blue brindle,,,,,,we were exspecting a few black pup's,,none were born.
His last bitch was fawn, (mother white/ black parti / father fawn
she had 1 white/ black parti, 1 blue, 2 brindle and a black
The owner of that bitch was after a brindle so was quite happy with her litter
PS,,These pup's are all sold and have been booked well before they were born.
