hi signer, I always have my Wolfhound bitches scanned, not to ge exact numbers, but to find out wether a large or small litter, to adjust diet. I have always found it to be stress free for them, with no side effects

I was scanned with all 6 of my pregnancies and have all my bitches scanned too and never once have we had a problem with reabsorption. Scans do no harm to your children or unborn puppies they are perfectly safe.

Personally I wouldn't scan a bitch between days 38 and 46 of the pregnancy, as this I am told approx 42 days is the latest time for reabsorbtion if the bitch finds travelling/trips to the vet traumatic. One reason for reabsorbtion is stress, so she should not be put in any stressful situations during this time. At other "dates" I would say - go ahead and have no worries about it.
