I took my pup out today and he shook the whole time even in my arms doesnt like the lead either any ideas? i took him home as i felt for him he was so frightened i dont know what to do
My pup was the same use to carry her down to post letters and get her use to traffic use to put lead on eventhough wasnt walking her with it,when she could first walk out she was very nervous of cars etc,and would sit and watch them go by,it think you need to keep it up she will get better it is a big world for a little puppy give her lots of cuddles and talk softly to her she will soon enjoy her jaunts out.Zanta use to shake in my arms too i felt so wicked.
Hi, Blue did the exact same thing when i used to take him up to the corner of my road in my arms, only for a couple of mins as he used to shake too but he got used to it (cant walk him up there no more coz his too heavy) also taking him out in the car helped too :)
Mine was the same until he was about 4 months. It seemed he would never walk at times! Just persevere with him. Take some treats with you and offer them every now and again and make lots of fuss so the he understands that OUT is a good thing. When you come home, take the lead off and dont make too much fuss as he may feel that you are relieved to be home too signalling that you are more comfortable indoors too. I know its hard as we want nothing more than to go out and do the enjoyable things with our dogs but trust me, he will be dragging you down the road soon.
You could also try driving or carrying him to a nearby park at a quiet time during the day just for 10 or 15 minutes (im assuming hes had his jabs). Take a few toys and just sit and play on the grass with no pressure to walk anywhere. You can cross your legs and pop him in the middle so that he feels the security of being protected by you but at the same time he gets used to the sounds and smells around him. Soon they will interest him far more than being with you does!
Dont worry too much about the shaking as young dogs, even mine at 10 months sometimes, have a habit of shaking when they experience new things. They have a great knack of making you feel terrible with those big eyes. Soon he'll be thanking you.
Good luck

My puppy is still a bit worried about cars going past even at 7 months, though off lead in the park she is as bold as anything! I remember the first time I took her to ringcraft she spent the first 10 or 15 minutes lurking under my chair, but I didn't force her and she gradually came out to investigate and now she drags me in! Just be gentle with your puppy and let him get used to things at his own pace, don't force him to do anything. But don't make too much of a fuss of him or he will think you are confirming that there is something to worry about!

Ditto what the others have put & I will add with my little dogs I sit with them on my knee & do T Touch massage before going out & whenever I stop with them I do it again, I'm lucky that mine can go to a dog club & out & about in my arms(not the new BC for very long mind you ;)) being quite small & the T Touch does work
T Touch link
I thought if a puppy was nervous of anything you were supposed to ignore the behaviour, as if you made a fuss of them they would then assume that you were praising them for being scared. Although I must admit, I don't think I could leave the pup alone if he was scared.

T Touch isn't making a fuss of the dog & if used before you go into the stressful situation & reinforced whilst out it helps the dog's own endorphins work
Yes I saw something about T Touch a few weeks ago, I wasn't replying to what you were saying MM, just replied to your post so my post went at the bottom sorry :D

No problem

The only thing I would add is do not console a frightened pup. this will confirm to it that there is something to be frightened of,a dn the fuss will in itself be rewarding encouraging pup to react in a scared way to get it.
Be very upbeat, talk really cheerfully (jolly hockey sticks manner), and ignore the scared behaviour. Try and find somewhere to sit,a dn always walk with traffic coming towards you nto behind you. Seeing what is coming may be worrying but having these scary monsters coming up behind is worse.
