Our Bichon has just been to the vet tonight with his ongoing skin allergy and I asked about cyclosporin because the vet always puts him on steroids which I know aren't doing him any good.  He said they had good results with it and has now prescribed him some Atopicia tablets (although they hadn't got any in and we have to get them tomorrow) which he has to take for 10 days and then go back to see how he is doing on them.  I am really hoping that they will work because it will be wonderful to see him stop scratching.  The atopicia are quite expensive at £28.04 for 10 but the vet says if they work we will be able to drop him down to one every few days or so.  I have also seen them at £13.81 on an animal medicine site but it says that you have to have a vets prescription to order them which I am hoping they will give me if he has to be on them long-term.

One of my male Goldies has been itchy for ages, even to the extent that the fur on his belly turned bright pink from the saliva and his constant licking and nibbling. He had also been to the vets who reckoned it was a flea allergy (although I was not convinced as he is de-flead on a regular basis), so just to follow vets advice I sprayed the house and the dog. No improvement, as I suspected.

Recently I have tried something called STOP ITCH from Wendals (www.wendals.com) and although I didn't hold out much hope it seems to be working. It is made up of natural herbs (cleavers, dandelion, fenugreek seed, garlic, golden rod, nettles, sage and seaweed).

Hope this helps - good luck!
