Hi guys,

I have a 6 month old Shar Pei I am going to be showing in August. Really excited. My puppies breeder is a judge and is convinced he has what it takes.

I've been reading up on shows too, and is it really true that some competitors try to put you off, make unsettling comments, allow their dogs to upset yours, etc...

I'd love to hear of your good and bad experiences at dog shows...

Paul

As in any passtime there are bad sports, but teh vast majority of people try to help anyone that seems unsure or is keen to learn.  Avoid the first and cultivate the company of the latter and you won't go far wrong.

Sadly bad behaviour can really ruin a breed putting off newcomers and in others newcomers are welcomed.

Snap, I have a new puppy shar-pei, he is 10 weeks old today.
I will be staring to show him in dec, very nervous about it but excited.
Good luck with showing your shar-pei paul.
Are you going to the usk show in s.wales?

I started showing my Cavalier 3 years ago and found most people pretty friendly. The only slightly off experience I really had was a lady who kept taking a step forwards with her dog so that mine was hidden - I didn't realise she was doing it on purpose but just kept stepping forwards too! By the time we were pulled out 2nd we were nearly in the middle of the ring anyway!!!  :-)
