Im forever asking questions, sorry...I just am a curious little lady!

Why do some breeds cost far more than others to buy? And yes it is triggered from the Bulldog post :)
Is it because they have certain health problems such as breathing difficulties and C-sections for the Bulldog? If so, why are they bred?

Pure economics accounts for some of the price :) The 'overheads' (testing, caesarian etc) are going to work out more expensive for bigger dogs or dogs needing more tests. Dogs that produce larger litters should, in theory ( :) ), be cheaper than small litters as the costs are shared between more puppies.

I won't comment on any other things as I have no experience :)

I suppose it is also what people are prepared to pay.  I think if you were to so a broad cross section of well bred pups of various breeds that had average size litters that the price would be £400 to £600 for a puppy, some particulary successful breeders will charge more, though most do not..

There will be some breeds were there are difficulties breeding puppies or for some reason people are willing to pay silly money, and here the prices seem to be in a few cases unjustifiably high.

& of course there is fashion the more popular the breed often the higher the price(you can just about name your price when selling cavaliers & just because you pay a lot doesn't mean quality) & then novelty new breeds or designer crossbreeds & finally there is snobbery being able to brag about paying £x,000 for a dog !

A KC BC for example is around £400+ but an ISDS BC may only be £200 or less & an unregistered BC £50

There is a puppy dealer near here who sells his dogs from £400 & they are basically puppy mill/farm puppies bred for money & both health & quality is poor
