Am I missing something here?  I've just noticed a poster stating that their vet charged £1.30 for a single Drontal tablet.  I've looked on Canine Chemist and also VetMedic and these are £1.77 for a single one, and £1.57 each if you buy 100 from VetMedic and £2.25 single and again £1.57 each if you buy 100.

I'm surprised that in this instance the vet is cheaper.  I was going to buy my own, but 100 is too many for me, and it looks like I may get them cheaper at the vet.

Yeah i was suprised how cheap they are at the vets! The ones in the supermarkets are quite expensive and their not even supposed to be as good! Doesnt make sense, but im not complaining! :)

Maybe vets can get substantial discount for buying in big quantities and are therefore able to sell them a little cheaper.

It will depend on the vet mine doesn't sell them that cheaply. Also they do have promotions backed by the suppliers of the drugs.

My vet has just charged me £9.54 inc vat for 1 drontal plus tablet, this was for 30-40 kilo dog, and although my girl is 29.8 kilos I was told this was cheaper than buying 2 tablets for a 20-30 kilo weight. 'Am I going mad'.

Wow - my vets charge £3.30 for a single tablet and I need to give mine 3 1/2 and 4 tablets respectively so it works out far cheaper to buy in bulk from an online store. I bought my last lot in bulk at Crufts which were slightly cheaper than what they sell them online for.

That was my post you read that from! That was only for a Drontal plus (Large dog) tablet. I'm not sure what they charge for other sizes or for Panacur.

Whereabouts are you Keira?  I think that makes a difference too.  I will be asking my vet how much he charges when the time comes - never really took much notice before, as the cost of the wormer is added to the vaccination charges for two dogs.....

I'm in Wiltshire although I switched vets a couple of years ago due to the old practice being so USELESS! Although, the old practice charged more for a single tablet. I think it was nearer £3.

One of my boys has to have the injection wormer now as he is highly allergic to Drontal and our vet (honestly - which is nice) said that it wouldn't be worth trying him on Panacur. The injection is £8.76 to be exact for a dog with the weight of 19kg (severely underweight!). It's very expensive but the secretary told me that it's charged the same at every practice across the country. The only thing is, I forgot to ask how often we have to have it updated. Whereas the older dog is being updated every 3months with Drontal, I have no idea about the injection.

I have to phone them up sometime this week anyway. I can ask for exact prices of each wormer they do if you want.

Thanks Keira - mine have always had Drontal tabs and Granofen powder alternated every three months.  I have never had a problem with either of these but if I gave the wormer myself it would be the Drontal tab only, and no alternating.

You being in the "country", as it were, explains why they were so cheap.  I shall be asking my vet the actual price when I next need to buy (I always buy a years worth when I vaccinate), and will refuse them if I can get cheaper at VetMedic or similar.

I must admit I am getting a little tired of shelling out money to the vet.  I have today ordered some Fenugreek and mixed vegetable tablets for Roxy's cystitis from Dorwest Herbs and also a book on what herbs fix what problems, so hopefully, I will be able to avoid the vet unless it's an emergency! :)

I buy drontal plus from manor pharmacy at £1.77 per tablet. Its right nextdoor to my local supermarket so i dont have to go far for it :)

I generally get tablets from the supermarket but would like to get the girls onto drontal.
Do I need a consultation with the vet?
Are they prescribed?

I appreciate the dogs will need weighing and I guess its better to get the wormer when they get their boosters, but they aren't due for ages

I would NEVER get worming tablets from a supermarket. In my experience they are not at all effective, and a few years ago I bought worming tablets for cats and one of my queens had a stroke after being given one. She was lopsided (head tilt) for the next ten years, until she died. I wrote about it in a cat club magazine and was contacted by lots of people who had had the same experience! :( Only last year I spoke to somebody whose cat had had a fit after being given a worming tablet bought from a supermarket. It's not worth the risk to save a few quid. I've used Drontal ever since this, for both dogs and cats.
