Topic Dog Boards / Health / Diarrhea & constipation - American way
- By KeiraAlphaByron [gb] Date 03.07.05 13:19 UTC
I've just been on an American message board and was reading a topic between two Pyrenees Mountain Dog owners. One was saying how her dog was suffering from consipation (doesn't say how old she is but is a rescue) and that they're very worried about her. Another owner came on and said to feed her "plain canned pumpkin". I've never heard of this before! Don't think I've seen it in the shops (but then again I've never looked!) and would it actually solve constipation? The woman also said it's good for diarrhea too.

I'm just interested as it seems really strange as it's something I've never seen anyone reccommend on here before!

Hi,

Pumpkin is high in fiber, which is why it is helpful with either constipation or the diarhea.

Canned pumpkin is always sold in American supermarkets. Pumpkin pie is a favourite American dessert, especially at Thanksgiving, so it's always in stock.  "Plain canned pumpkin" means it's mixed without spices and sugar - for lazy pie bakers you can buy the pumpkin pie filling complete and just pour it into a pie crust.

Thanks for that! Been out to the States a couple of times but like I said, I've never actually gone looking for that sort of thing. It's definitely something that no one has mentioned on this board before though!
