Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Should I "top up" puppy
- By Guest [gb] Date 02.07.05 20:13 UTC
I have a litter of 9 German Shepherd puppies, 2 weeks old, all fine and healthy, however 1 is much lighter weight than the rest and is getting pushed off the teats by the "fatties", should I "top her up" with artificial milk or let her suck before letting the rest on.  I have a supply of fresh goats milk and wondered if I could use that?  Advice gratefully received.

In Spain they believe Goats milk is the next best thing to mother's milk, but if it were mine I'd try and let her get to the teat first and have a good suckle before the fatties join in :d

They are old enough to start on semi solids now, so if you get them going the little one can get extra from Mum.  Generally you can give extra to the fat pups so that the little ones get more of the best food which is Mums milk.
