I have a 2 and a half year old staffordshire bull terrier bitch and am wanting to get a companion for her. She loves human contact and is generally ok with other dogs, although she is typically bossy. She has the run of downstairs and can be trusted. The new pup, a male, will be crate trained as she was. However i do not wish to crate him all his life. I have heard mixed reports that they should always be kept apart, is this true? Surely once the pecking order is established they should be ok? I welcome advice from fellow staff owners who have more than one dog especially.

Hi Steve, I have 2 staffs a dog & a bitch, the dog is 4yrs the bitch is nearly 2, they are dad & daughter. Once they had established the pecking order they get on really well together. The bitch had her first litter 5 wks ago(by another stud dog ) and we are going to keep 2 of those ,a dog and a bitch. When she was younger i used to crate her when i was out, but they have run of the downstairs now, I shall do the same with the puppies but crate them separately when i am out.
