Hi people

Last year i bred my greyhound bitch with my lurcher dog. The pups were all very healthy at birth but unfortunately they all started fading away throughout the week and the next. I did alot of research into fading puppy syndrome, and found out that canine herpes was the main cause and that a vaccine was produced to give ammunity in the pups against this.

Earlier this year i bred her again but this time she was vaccinated against CHV. She had 11 healthy pups and they all survived. They have been in their new homes for 2 months now and are all doing well.

My question is could the dog who mated with the bitch have caught CHV? I would like to use him on one of my other bitches and many people want to use on their bitches. I do not want to use him if he has now got CHV. Does anyone know if he could have caught this virus?

Simple answer is yes, there is a very high possiblitlity that he has been in contact with the virus

Thanks kayc this link was great. I think if i am going to use him again then i will use the CHV vaccine every time. I will certainly vaccinate every bitch when mated now.

many thanks lurcherlover

I was about to say if one of your girls has CHV then theres a really strong chance your other girl does.....but I guess the info Kayc gave you said the same.

Good luck
