Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Crawling across the rug?
- By LeanneK [gb] Date 29.06.05 17:20 UTC
Just wondering why my dog is doing this.  The only way I can discribe it is by comparing it with a Lassie film where Lassie is injured and is crawling to get help.  His belly is on the floor and he drags his body along the floor using all four paws.  Its funny to watch but just wondering why he would be doing it.

maybe he's scratching his belly, we all get an itch now and again, or maybe he likes the feel of the rug running across his belly, kind of like a DIY massage lol :D

Ha ha this is what I thought, or maybe there is a sexual element to it.

well i didnt like to say :D

My dog has always done this and I have assumed (wrongly perhaps) that it is when he is tired and just can't be bothered to get up. He will often do it when he has been stretched out snoozing for a while and wants to reach a chew or a toy. If he can't reach then he will eventually get up.

I may be totally wrong and would like to hear others views.

He has become too big to hump his little sofa now so I think this is his new way of getting a cheap thrill.  I would love to be told I was wrong and that my dog actually isnt a sexual deviant ha ha.

Roughbaby maybe your right and they do it when they are feeling lazy........

It is definately a laziness thing. Its like having a good scratch but I also think that they learn that it feels nice from a sexual point of view and do it more when they reach that age!

If you think yours is a sexual deviant listen to this (sorry if your eating your tea but I have been dying to share this under the right forum to see if anyone else had experienced it) my boy had what I can only describe as a wet dream the other day. It was quite a suprise, I can tell you! I had no idea dogs did this. I guess they are like any normal little boy at the end of the day. He awoke looking strangely satisfied with himself and with no idea that we had cleaned up around him!

Oh my god! Im emotionally scarred now!! ha ha  I didnt think dogs did that sort of thing.  You sure do learn something new every day.

oh my god caroline!! My sisters boxer did the same thing. He was laid on his side, enjoying the carpet, then squirt! Dirty blighter!!!!! I think i'd have vommed if i was cleaning it up-think the vax may have paid a visit thus ensuring i didn't have to get too close!

thats tickled me that has!! :D

Hes such a dirty little boy! At least hes in good working order though. All I can say is thank god for laminate flooring!

Strangley though he doesnt hump anything anymore. He clearly doesnt need the stimulation. He does seem to have a leaky washer though as he just drips!

Ok ill leave it there. I think I have scarred you all enough now! Sweet Dreams (pardon the pun)

lol you are not alone! last week my youngest was making little puppy noises in his sleep, i turned around to admire, only to see him humping away whilst dreaming - dirty dog :D

he was very pleased with himself as i stripped the cover off the cushion to wash it. *tut*
