Topic Dog Boards / Health / Puppy Dogs Swollen Teats - 1st season

Hello all,

Hope you can help a neurotic mother (that's me!).

My Labrador is not quite one year old.  She had her 1st season just recently (started about 6 weeks ago).  All seemed to go normally - I think.  This is my first time with a bitch puppy.  She only bled for a couple of days.

My concern now is that her teats are all very enlarged, and show no signs of going back to normal.

Is this usual?  Could she be having a phantom pregnancy?... She is quite happy in herself and not displaying any odd behaviour.... or could she be pregnant?!!!

We tried to be very careful not to let her alone with any male dogs, but she did manage to get access to one very early on in her season, before we realised what was going on.

Oh dear!

Unfortunately she could be pregnant.  If I were you I'd take her to your vets and get her checked out they should be able to advise you.

OK, so I have called the vet.  They say they will not be able to tell without an ultrasound whether or not she is pregnant.  They asked if I am sure she is...!

Well, that's exactly the point - I don't know.

Does anyone know what other signs to look out for in early pregnancy?

I can't get her into the vets until next week now anyway.

Thank you
