Hi, just wondered what happens in other breeds, but at the moment we have one or two judges on the A list that have never bred a champion, or even I think one that has gained CC's. Should they be judging at Ch shows and giving tickets?

It all depends what your breed council has decided are the requirements to be placed on the A list. They may decide that judging experience is the most important requirement and someone who does a lot of judging will not do much showing and may not breed at all. JH

some folk hit lucky and breed dogs that are made up. or take cc's, yet the owners may understand nothing about construction, type etc, -if they where to sit the clubs exam theyd be lost, ---then theres the ones that have a really good eye, can explain and understand the workings of a breed but perhaps not been lucky enough to hit on the right connection to produce a champion, ---which one would you rather have judging your dogs :rolleyes:

A friend of mine now deceased, had a very large family of Finish spitz. she bred when she wanted to keep two, and as her litters were small, usually got just two. she showed whatever she had, unless it was really awful!

She won numerous CCs, but never 3 with the same dog, as she always fielded a team of six, or sometimes only 4 at Open shows. she was extremely knowlegeable, and did judge at CC level, but saw it more as a responsibility, and never judged my breed of which she certtainly knew a lot, having had at least one for many years, and knew a lot more than some of the judges giving us CCs.

I will never judge, as I have a visual disability, and haven't the money! I have only just had the good fortune to breed a champion in my 3rd genertation, but othersd make up their first dog, or breed one in their first litter more by luck than judgement. I don't hink it neccesarily corelates that a person who has top winners will judge well. though I suppose someone who has bred and shown real horrors for a long time is unlikely to have a good eye either!

Thanks, it is far more fun that someone else has done well, than doing it yourself, a lot less expensive too. I hope they get the other two also. they are very keen to learn. Bath was their first show outdoors, and he kept sniffing, and they got a fourth out of five I think.

They didn't mind in the least, and I showed them how to keep his head up using a different collar!

just for you brainless----barbelka forrest-the star of the show,took my eye as soon as he entered the ring.good front and legs,level topline,tail curls tightly over his back. good reach of neck. lovley wedge shaped head, dark eyes giving a real freindly expression, moved with purpose well presented and handled, a credit to his owners, will follow his future with interest!!!!!!!!!
i didnt realise they should have good reach of neck>you live and learn :D

Oh yes, nothing gives a the dog more than a nicely crested neck.
