I want to take my 5 month old collie puppy to her first fun show, but does she have to be 6 months old like in other shows?
Also her transfer of ownership has not come back from the kennel club, do I need her KC number to enter her into the show?
She hasn't had any ringcraft training as I can't find one near to me I live in Burnham Bucks.
She also has Kaolin on her ears at the moment, does this need to be removed
for this type of show?
Lots of questions I know, but I am new to showing but would love to give it a
go and meet new people and dogs.

Hi
Companion dog shows still are for puppies from six months. However if you contact the person organising it, sometimes they are happy for you to enter the class but you will not be placed. This would be a good way of socialising your puppy to other dogs and a friendly show environment. If you look on previous posts about this. Some do enter their underage puppies anyway. The decision is yours.
Secondly, for companion dog shows you do not have to put any kc registration information down about your dog, so this would not be a problem.
For ringcraft in your area contact the Kennel club who has lists of ringcraft clubs, or you can find alot of information on the internet under dog websites.

As Megan said Companion Dog Shows are supposed to be for dogs of 6 months and older (but no KC reg stuff to worry about) however most people take younger puppies along as a way of socialising them with lots of other dogs, people and getting used to the strange noises etc so at 5 months you'll not have the only young puppy there.  You can of course inform the steward/person taking the entries that your pup is only there for the practice and you are not looking to have her placed but you'll almost certainly find that they hear that a dozen times so it's unlikely to be a problem ;)

If it's not advertised as a Companion show and just a Fun Dog Show (which is what you mentioned) the 6 month rule doesn't apply anyway :)

Re the kaolin on her ears (didn't know that was something put on ears  ) however you could try removing obvious evidence with baby wipes first.

Good luck and more importantly enjoy the experience - it's a good way of picking up some useful info as well as vibes.  Teri :)

The kaolin is sometimes used to weight rough collie ears Teri :D

Thanks Gillian - news to me <LOLOL> so I learned two new things today (well technically yesterday now ;) ) - unfortunately the other one was that I forgot to phone my iron lady and I had to do a whole shirt and a pair of trousers all by myself  Took me ages to dig the darn iron out from behind goodness knows how much obsolete equipment too :(

Oh well, onwards and upwards - if I ever diversify into rough collies, should the need arise I'll know what to do :P

Cheers, Teri :)
