I have been informed today by Spice's breeder, that her mother has been diagnosed with Addison's, following the successful birth of her 3rd and final litter, (spice was one from the 2nd litter). She is responding to treatment but they are keeping a watchful eye on her and the puppies are being 'fostered' at the moment as 'mum' cannot cope with them and is on steroids which would come through in her milk.

What I really want to know is whether or not Addisons is inherited from a mother to her pups? Do you think we should mention it to our vet as a precaution in case Spice should develop any symptoms in the future?

I have done some web search but cannot find anywhere that indicates if this disease is inherited through genes from mother to puppies and hope that someone on here would have some answers.

Thanks in advance,
very worried Jacqueline :)

The answer is do tell your vet when anything like this crops up and talk things over with him/her. They have the training, and access to detailed literature on such problems.
I expect there will be many here who will advise you to look on google, it is a good search tool. The more you can find out the better you'll be prepared if anything did happen to your dog.
My friends bitch had Addisons, and she did not survive, however none of her relatives had it going back as far as we could see in the pedigree. She was one of 11 pups and was also the only one to get it.

I have a friend (human!) who's been diagnosed with "Adrenal gland exhaustion" and told to rest as much as possible for several weeks, hoping things will improve. Anyone else heard of this?
