This is the first time I've had a bitch in season in about 15 years!! (which means I was a teenager for the last one LOL). Savvy started about 4 days ago with the red stuff though I suspect she'd been going a few days longer just by the way she was acting and how Chelsea was responding to her.

Anyway, the last month or so she's been overheating much more than usual and someone mentioned this could be because she was due in season (I've not had a word with the vet as it's not seemed too worrying yet), but wanted to hear opinions and experiences, however the real reason I was writing is that she just won't stop licking us!! Any piece of uncovered skin is fair game - it's like she just can't help herself! Is she short on salt, is this common for a bitch in season, is it possible it's a 'mothering' instinct.

Just curious more than anything about what other, more experienced people, have experienced.

Sorry Wendy- I've not yet reached the 'season' stage with my bitch but it'll interest me too when the reply's do start coming:)

As for the licking part- Kass always licks my bare foot when I come down in the morning and turn the kettle on- I have a 'hate' about feet anyway.....it annoys the hell out of me as it makes me cringe.

Samma's a licker....and she's spayed :) If I come out of the shower, she'll start licking her chops because she anticipates I'm going for the lotion. That's what she really loves :rolleyes: But bare skin is good too. I end up smashing a tiny smidgeon on the top of her nose. That keeps her busy for a while and not bothering me :)

Other than that, I just tell her "stop" when she starts up. Since I can't beat her for it, it's the best I can do :D

I think with her 1) she likes the taste of salt/skin/whatever; 2) it's comforting; and 3)it's habitual. Have no other idea why. It's just her Naiture ;)

Both of our girls (spayed and unspayed) do the shower thing. They sit there and demand (bark) that you come out NOW so they can have their daily shower-lick LOL. And Savvy does tend to lick, but since she's been in season this can be almost constant! If there's a patch of skin anywhere within licking distance it gets it:)
