please can someone give me advice, I would like to buy a bulldog puppy but the price is putting me off and also i have heard they can have health problems would the olde tyme bulldogge be a better choice? what is there health like?
Hi, I can't comment on the health risks, although I have heard there are some very unhealthy dog's being bred, but don't let the price put you off, your dog will be with you, as part of the family for many years :D If this means that you have to save for a year or so, it will be well worth it when you bring him/her home, and they are healthy :D
Also, if you get your head round the initial costs, please be carefull choosing your breeder, there are many "breeders" out there, that don't do health checks, keep their breeding stock in dreadfull conditions, and will offer you no peace of mind throughout the life of your dog. Make sure the breeder you choose, is one that you trust, and that you see at least the pup's mum, and if at all possible see the dad as well, if you can't find out as much as you can about him, look at pictures, talk to other people who may have seen him at shows etc. The most important thing's (in my eyes) is that you see the health certificates, relevent to the breed for both mum and dad, that you have the puppy vet checked as soon as you can when you get him, and that you are happy with mum and dads temperament.
Good luck in your search, and with your new puppy :D Why don't you join (it is quick, easy and free) and then you will have a world of knowledgable people at your finger tips :D
both types of bulldog can have health problems so its very important to make sure you research your breeder very thoroughly, you need to aks them lots of questions, and they should be asking you lots as well. Try to buy from a well known breeder with a good reputation as they will want to make sure they keep that good rep by health testing their stock and keeping their customers (for want of a better word) happy.
good luck the bulldog is a fantastic breed!
