Ok, my mum is in a panic and I am confused, easily done I know! The thing is, Mum has seen an advert on the telly saying something about having to re-register your car by the 1st July or it is no longer legal!

Does anyone else know anything about this?
Most people would ring the council/DVLA/government/Danger Mouse but I say, I'll post on CD, they'll know! :p Mum's face went something like this...
Can't imagine why...;-)

The vehicle registration documents have changed. Just tell her to contact the DVLC if she hasn't been sent a new one. I'm sure it'll be no problem - just needs to be done!

Hi,
If you already own a car you should have received documents in the post :)
If you haven't received anything yet try phoning them :)

That's odd, we both have our own cars but either of us have received anything.

Bl**dy hell, we're sharp for this time of night!!:p
You are a bit aren't you! I've just got back from a cr*p night of agility training, what's your excuse?
No, not changed address. Will ring them in the morning and see what's going on. I retaxed mine last month. I wonder if something would have been sent with that.

Ouch, knew nothing about it, strange I have not received anything. One car is on a personal plate, hope I dont lose this!!!!. I think DVLA are going to have a busy day tomorrow and CDers will be hogging the phone lines lines :)
Thanks guys, I will chase this up. Kayc why would I post this as a wind up? My mum was really worried as she hadn't caught the whole advert and no one she knows knew anything about it.
Enjoy your Horlicks Val. ;-)

I know this is slightly OT :-D
I did my tax on line this morning took all of 15 seconds. You only need the licence letter they send you .
Very impressed. :-)
My car is 2 years old and I think I still have the old doc.

Anyone that's changed their car since beginning of
2004 will already have had the new reg document given to them immediately after purchasing the car if new from a dealership or if pre-registered then forwarded onto them when registering as the new owner by DVLA. I got my latest car in April 04 and only saw the advert for the first time two nights ago and panicked so checked - explains it clearly on the booklet that came with the document. It's a bright blue top section on a four page A4 size - so longer and a different colour from the old V5.
HTH, Teri :)
who never usually reads foo so misses half this stuff :P

Thank you Teri ;) you have just cleared that little quandry up for me, I was starting to lose track of it all
I got my car in April 2004 and also panicked when I saw the ad, but have now realised that I too have a bright blue top section.........so I'm safe :D
Ok, have checked through all my stuff and found the right one - it is called the V5C, the old one was V5. Mum's definitely isn't here so I found out what to do and then thought I would post it on here to save anyone else waiting on a phone line.
You put your old V5 in an envelope with a covering letter and address it to:-
DVLA
Swansea
SA99 1BA
They then send you the correct form.
Thanks to everyone for your help. :-)
