Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Male Dobe Suggestion

I have two male Dobe dogs, both entire, they are ages 21months (Nero) and 4 1/2 (Alexis), I am adding a female soon, she is about 6mts, she will be speyed as I do not intend to breed from her.

The boys get along fine and always have done, however I NEVER leave them alone unattended even for 5 minutes, Nero spends his time when im out in a large crate (I am never out for more than 5 hours max and his crate is his 'safe haven'), Alexis has the run of the kitchen.

I was wondering if anyone had any advice on who I should keep the bitch with when I am out, she will be named Ruby. Neither dog is what I would call dominant although Alexis HAS to get in the car first, if he doesnt make it then he will create a bit of a fuss although I can control him with my voice and I obviously avoid the situation with seperate cages in the car etc.

I am not too bothered I could always keep her sperate in another room although I thought that being a pup she would enjoy company, any suggestions anyone?

P.S when she has her first season she will be going into kennels and careful re-introductions will occour after the said season.

Once you've got the new girl you will be able to see how your dogs are all going to get on? before then it's abit hard really because it is a new situation for them all, but why dont you get her a crate and train her to go in the crate aswell of a night and that way you know that they're all safe and she'll have her own area to sleep and feel safe and the one what has the run of the kitchen can still have the run of the kitchen that way there's not to much disturbance and all dogs will be happy.

Warm regards Susab

Have you checked that the kennels will take an in-season bitch?  Its quite a responsiblity and could cause a lot of upset for the other kennelled dogs.

I think that you will find that most people put the male in kennels and take responsibility for an in season bitch themselves.
