my boy was stood in front of me earlier and i ran my hands along his sides. on his left hand side his last rib really sticks out as if it is bent, the right side is normal. Should they be like this or is there something wrong?

I would have him examined by a vet for reassurance.

I cannot tell you how many times when I first had dogs that I gasped when I thought one of my dogs had a tumour or lump of some kind - the culprit was always the last rib.  They do not always feel the same on each side of the body.  And they do not even always feel the same on the same side of the body, it depends on the dog's position.

If you have no reason to believe your dog has injured himself and is acting normally I personally would not worry about it.
