hello i have a great dane she is 18 weeks old. I am having trouble getting her to mix with people, she is very shy and backs away from people. she is really good in the house but hates anyone coming in and she backs off and wont go to anyone even after a while. how should i get her to like people? thankyou.. Try to let her go forward to meet people in her own time and when she does go over tell them to give her a lovely treat and loads of praise, tell them not to touch her head untils she is comfortable with them doing so, while she's still young you need to introduce her to as many people as you can of all different ages and  colours especially if she is shy, but in saying that you should be doing it anyway so she has a good start in life.  Dont let her get overwhelmed though let her take it in her stride, nows the best time before it's to late, so you need to start as soon as invite your neighbours around for a cuppa and a chat and let your dog introduce herself in her own time, you need to keep this up until she's about six months old because there comes a time when she will meet each situation with apprehension if you you dont start socialising her today.  Good luck.

In addition to the above, try to get people to totally ignore her (hard to do with most visitors and pups ;) ) especially not look directly at her ;)  until after she decides to approach them and let them touch her, after a good sniff.  If they have a treat in their hand which she can take it would also help :)

To be strictly accurate, doesn't the heading say that they're possibly a troll, not that they definitely are? ;) It's up to everyone to heed the reminder and decide for themselves. :)

A troll is also called a WUM (wind up merchant), which is basically someone who is posting just to cause and argument or cause trouble. I don't think the original poster here is a troll.
