You must ring Mrs Shirley johnson of the Flatcoated Retriever Society. There are a number of puppies on her register at the moment.

Society's Litter Secretary:  Mrs Shirley Johnson
Telephone:  01638 718231

All responsible FCR breeders with puppies for sale will register their puppies with Mrs Johnson.

Have you had the breed before? If not you might be well advised to actually meet some before buying a puppy.

Hi,  I agree with Polly, if you haven't had a Flatcoat before, please arrange to visit some or go to a show first.  Hopefully you will have done your homework and realise that they're not just a black (or liver!) Golden Retriever :) They're not the breed for everyone. There are plenty of FC people on this forum so any questions, just ask :)

If you have, then you know what you're letting yourself in for!
I'm sure Shirley will be of help, good luck.

Agree with the  others, except to say that several very responsible breeders don't really need to register with Mrs Johnson unless they find they have a surplus of dog pups - they have their own people who come back after a few years as they like a certain line.

Don't think that if they're not on Mrs Johnson's list, they are (necessarily) poorly bred - could be the opposite, but I do recommend that you ask Mrs Johnson to vet the name of the breeder.

Hope you see the difference.
