I'm just taking some time to tell you how I feel about dogs. I love Wire Fox Terriers because of their personality looks and how much their style would suit mine. I am 12 and I,ve wanted a dog since I was 7. I currently have a cat and adore her but I would still love a dog.
The thing that annoys me is that I sometimes want a dog so badly that it hurts inside or I cry. I just like the whole aspect of having a friend that you look arfter and love and in return loves you. I know quite a lot about dogs as I am always reading and looking up about them, although I'm always willing to lern more. I understand the immense responsebility. I know the equiptment I need off by heart and the rutine of the day I planned should I get one. I have enough time to walk, play with and groom it. I have proved to my pearents that I am responsible enough to look arfter a dog. The only thing that stands as a barrier between me and my Wire Fox Terrier is the cost. Every time I mension my dog to my pearents they say yes and how the breed I prefer is so nice and then they laugh and say when we win the lottery. it might sound stupid but it makes me mad. Then they get fed up of me mensioning it and get mad If anyone is reading this do they know what I could do.If so, please put an answer onthis site on the message board for me. Thankyou.
By the way when I get my dog (Wire Fox Terrier) I think I might call it Teddy, because I showed a picture of one in a book of the breed to my twin sister and she said that they look like teddy bears!!!!

Well pet it is nice you love dogs so much
but if your parents dont love them as much as you do then its best to wait untill you are old enough to buy and look after your own one .
Why dont you see if there is a rescue centre or dogs home or shelter near you where you can offer your help to look after poor dogs who have no one to care for them , say saturday mornings ,
That way you will be doing the best you can for them and also helping yourself by learning so much more what happens to unwanted dogs . lol Mari

Mari has some good suggestions. A couple of other ideas:
* You might be to find out if anyone in your neighborhood would like some help caring for their dog....such as dog walking and playing with it. Someone who is elderly or ill could appreciate your assistance.
Dog walking could bring in some extra cash during school breaks if you manage it successfully. :)
* When I was your age, I was so animal crazy that I ended up volunteering on alternate weekends at a nearby veterinary clinic and the humane society. I learned so much from those days about animals. I still use that knowledge today.

Sure, these don't guarantee contact with your "chosen breed" of the Fox Terrier... but it could be likely you might make friends and contacts with those who know others :D

I was mad about dogs when I was your age as well and my parents wouldn't let me have one so I used to take my neighbours dog out nearly everyday after school, not quite the same as having your own but it's the next best thing! sadly parents can't always afford to buy us everything we want, I wanted a horse as well but couldn't have one of those either!
I think the others here have come up with some really good ideas on getting involved with dogs, if you do some of those things ,by the time you're old enough to get your own dog you'll have had lots of usefull experience.

I too was mad for animals at your age, and my parents thought it a phase I would grow out of. I wasn't allowed a dog. If your parents are not keen on owning a dog themselves then it is probably best to wait until you have a home of your own, which I know sounds a lifetime away, and it is.

The thing is in not very many years you may leave home, to work or to go to University, and not be in a position to look after your Teddy anymore, and he would have to stay with the folks! :D If they aren't as keen as you are then it wouldn't be nice for either of them, and Fox terriers are usually long lived!

If it truly is only the cost, and your parents would like a dog as much as you then you could ask them to coatact the Wire Fox Terrier Breed clubs for details of Rescues, or breeders who may have had a dog back, that might be suitable for your family.

You may be lucky and find a WFT breeder near you who would be happy for you to come and help them with the dogs, or as the others have said help at rescue or boarding kennels!
