I have spoken to Terri today and she tells me that Brie her FCR has just given birth prematurely to 6 pups on day 54. One was born dead. The others have no hair and keeping their tempature at the correct level is proving very difficult.
Terri has asked me to post on her behalf, and ask if anyone else has had this happen and what the chances of survival of the puppies are. How did you manage the litter?
Brie some of you may remember was the bitch which had kennel cough when she had her last litter. I did wonder if changing hormone levels at the time she had kennel cough when she whelped the last litter could have led to her body thinking she was getting kennel cough again and react by having these pups early? Not being a vet I can't answer these questions, but did wonder, has anyone had a bitch get a virus in a previous litter and then have problems with their next litter?
My thoughts are with Terri and Brie, fingers crossed for the pups.

It's so awful for Terri and we have been e-mailing each other also today. I just can't believe how much bad luck she's had with her Flatcoats over the last 3 years.
If anyone has any advice or knows of any information it would be of great help to her. I know what she's like because she'll blame herself but unfortunately these things happen.
On a happier note for me. My mum's Pomeranian is starting to take to her pups and although they are still feeding from the bottle we are able to get her to feed them now and again and she's keeping them clean. Hopefully by the end of the weekend she'll be with them full time fingers crossed.
One thing that I do know is that I've had Pomeranian's born this early without hair and have managed to keep them alive and they did end up catching up and growing normally. So I've got everything crossed for Terri and Brie as they really don't deserve this.

Unfortunately all the puppies have died, terri is heartbroken as you can imagine. She is now worrying about Brie as Brie is so stressed and missing the pups. I will pass on all your sympathies to Terri.

So sorry Polly. Isn't it s*d's law that someone like Terri, who does her very best to do everything right ends up with no puppies, when others who make little effort rear a litter! :(
We can do no more for Terri than send our best wishes.

Sending my thoughts to Terri & Brie.
I may be on the wrong track here, but can't a cough be associated with CHV? and if Terri's girl has had this twice now, maybe something to think about??
I really don't know, but just to pass on my best wishes to them both and so sorry to hear the sad news :-(
They haven't had a cough this time, Terri was just wondering that due to her having KC the last litter whether that in some way has affected Brie this time?

I'm just so sorry, Terri - some things just aren't meant to be :( ! I'm sure you'll pull Brie through the next couple of weeks okay, and then after the spay, she'll settle down and I'm sure you will both enjoy the working tests.
