I have an Affenpinscher and she is 5 months old.  I am training her for the showring and she is good at the stand and looking at me. I am having problems walking her in a triangle and straight up and down.  She keeps wanting to wrap her self around my legs at the back. I have tried to jolly her up and reward her when she gets it right-which is about three steps. I then finish this exercise and make a big fuss of her.  I take her for walks on the road and although she is abit spooked by traffic and bin liners I feel that every day is an improvment.  I do not want to get her or myself into bad habits-I want us both to enjoy.  Any suggestions about her wanting to wrap herself around my legs ?.
Am I expecting too much from one soo young?.

The best thing i can think of is keep going with what your doing if its working, it all takes time, you dont want to nock the happyness out of her as shes a baby and a dog with atitude gets noticed by the judge more.

However you could try a sound when your pup is wraping its legs around youlike 'ahh', i have done this with a min for a couple of weeks while my sister was away, she springs up the side of you while running and now she dosent do it as much.

Hows it been going recentally?

If she is improving with what you are doing then it sounds fine.  Is their any reason for her trying to weave in your legs?  Have you got a treat in your hand she is trying to get?

If you don't already I would suggest you go to a ringcraft class.  here the trainers will be able to witness what is going on and find the possible problem and help you sort it out quicker.  It is really hard to give advice when not face to face as I don't know wxactly whats going on, however if I was to see what was happening I *might* be able to find the problem.

RE to expecting to much.  At 5 months old I would hope a puppy would be able to walk straight, I wouldn't think perfect movement (would still expect jumping and play) but would hope to see a pattern done in reasonably well.

Keep working at it, remember to keep it fun and enjoyable for her and you.

Have taken her to ringcraft and they are good but not too helpful-they find her soo endearing !!.  She is still wanting to wrap herself around my legs.  I have chosen to ignore this excercise until I get some professional advice. I need someone to see what she is doing and what I am doing. I live near to Manchester-anyone know of someone to help me ?.  My dogs first show is at Windsor next month.  Thanks
