Are you saying you intend them to mate?

Shazza, this bitch is far too young, the English Mastiff club recommend she have had 3 seasons and be at least 20 months old.  Also by leaving two large dogs to just get on with it you are risking serious damage to either or both of them.
The KC recommend elbow scoring for this breed and I would imagine hip scoring would be a good idea but you could check that with the Breed Club.  If you have not already done so, and got good scores, I would suggest you set about that first.  Have both of them been shown with any success if not you should also get someone experienced in the breed to check their suitability for breeding both in conformation and temperament.  I have to say the chances of your dog being an ideal complement to your bitch seems a bit of a long shot to me :)  When you make contact with the experienced person, perhaps the breeder of your bitch or someone recommended by the breed club them may be able to offer some help in affecting a mating if they think it appropriate to go ahead with this bitch.
You need to also check their registration documents to make sure there are no endorsements to prevent you registering any offspring from them.
Meantime I think you should take your bitch to the vet for a "morning after" injection just on the off chance your dog has mated with her this time.  Of course it will mean she will start her season all over again so you may wish to arrange for your dog to go to kennels meantime to avoid any accidents.

Well done Shazza.  You may find it best when you do decide to mate her when she is old enough to go to an expereinced stud dog and owner.

This way at least two of the parties (stud dog and his owner)involved will be knowledgeable about the mating process which with such large dogs can be far from straightforward, and definately at least  a two person job.

This will then allow you to have a better idea if and when your own male may be used at stud.

As has been said the chances of your own dog being the ideal mate for your bitch is not that likely.

I ahve recently had a male I bred be used at stud at my house with two bitches.  On paper he would make a good mate for my youngest when I plan to mate her in the Autumn, but unfortunately they have a tndencey to the same failing so are not a good match in themselves.

Instead I will be using a male that Lives in Sunderland when I am in Bristol.  It would have been so easy to just use the dog I have bred who lives reasonably close by, especially as I am not keeping a puppy from ehr first litter.

The reason I won't is that my aim is to aim to produce puppies that will be as near to the standard as possible, and that means at least ensuring the mates do not hve similar failings or faults.
