For those breeders having difficulties with bitches not conceiving, this page on the effects of Soya in the diet may be of interest

Interestingly there doesn't appear to have been any study on the effects of Soya on male sperm production and viability

Your link doesn't give me anything on the subject, maybe you have to be an AOL member as I just get a page from them, but I did hear on the news that some research was pointing at soya, peas and beans affecting fertility in humans so maybe that is what you are pointing us to?
When I heard it, though, I did find myself wondering what the explaination for the population problem in China was :D

To me it doesn't affect fertility as such, rather a chemical found in soya, beans and peas can be present in the female reproductive tract which affects the viability of the sperm, basically they burn out far quicker than you would expect.

That sounds like a fertility issue to me if they are saying it inhibits conception so I'm still left wondering about China? :)

I understood they still had the "one child" policy in China?? i.e Family Planning strictly enforced by the government...:-(

Well, doesn't that suggest to you their enjoyment of soya based products and bean sprouts are not giving them any fertility problems?

I think this advice was intended for couples not conceiving easily - I must admit I did hope no-one would take it on board as a new method of contraception :D :D

The bean sprouts eaten in china aren't all soya beans ;)  much more soya is eaten in Japan - they eat tofu.  A lot of the problem is that soya products in the west are far more processed and therefore they work differently.  There is also a great deal of soya hidden in foods in the west, you even eat soya flour in your bread, biscuits, cakes, burgers etc. places you wouldn't think of looking for it.

I've just checked the link I gave, for some reason the link isn't working but if you copy and paste it works fine.  There is also information in american zoos about soy protein causing infertility in cheetahs and other big cats.

I am cutting and pasting it just takes me to AOL home page, I guess you have to be a member.
The Chinese eat lost of bean curd too it's on every restaurant menu in UK and I ate quite a bit of it in Hong Kong but then I wasn't trying for a baby :)
The problems have been identified to a chemical genistein found in soya I'm not sure whether processing affects that or not.

Perhaps the fermentation process that the soy beans go thru to make bean curd inhibits the genistein sufficiently for it to be no problem?  This is the main difference between soy eaten in china and japan and that eaten in the west, as western soy is not often fermented.

Perhaps, I haven't the seen actual study just the Telegraph report of it which does mention tofu as one of the products.
