How about a muzzel LOL .

Really sorry, that was cruel, but when you find the answer can you let me know I need it more than you ?
Come to think of it if you do find the answer you could be onto a fortune !

I can whole heartedly recommend the Atkins diet -Read the book properly and follow it and you WILL loose weight -its not as unhealthy as alot of people think -its been the only diet that I have been able to stick to ( sort of lol )  I've lost two stone and feel so much better about myself -I can more or less eat what I want now -I just keep an eye on the carbs :)
- By Puppycat Date 19.06.05 13:49 UTC
Just remember Atkins himself died of heart disease at 50 something - coincidence?!
- By dapple [gb] Date 19.06.05 13:51 UTC
The best way is to adopt a complete lifestyle change. You need something you can stick to for life. Dieting only works for the duration of the diet, habits need to be changed.

i agree with the last post.  Its about a lifestyle change, not a diet.  When u go food shopping, eat first so ur full.  Then make sure u just buy healthy things.  Like lots of fruit and veg, and white meat more than red meat.  It doesnt mean u have to cut out snacks and chocolate, but u need to find a balance.  Try and cook urself a good dinner everynight rather than takeaways.

Also, try find a hobby that will get ur heart going.  If u have dogs, and i assume u do,lol, then try walkin fast with them, almost a jog but not quite, it will get ur heart pumping.  Slow walkin is low impact, u need to get ur heart pumping, it means u can gradually get to jogging a bit with them or cylce with them.  Going to the gym is boring, but maybe swimming or cycling?  or if ur daring martial arts.  I really enjoyed kickboxing and it definetely gets ur heart pumping!
If u exercise everyday or every other day then u wont have to cut too much stuff out.  As long as u have a healthy part of ur daily diet like fruit and veg and a good dinner.
Also, try just drinking water or add a bit of juice to it.  Cutting out things like fizzy drinks and alcohol can make the world of difference!  Slowly cut things out, dont try and go cold turkey cos otherwise u will probably fail and get cravings for things.  Just cut things out gradually!

hope this helps x

Hi.  Have you tried joining a slimming group?  I don't think it really matters which one, as all the diets work IMO, but it's the 'support' you receive from all your fellow slimmers that helps - it gives you a focus, something to aim for each week.

Also, if you do join, pay four weeks in advance, that way you won't stop going if you think you've been 'bad' as you know you've already paid so might as well go anyway.  I find this really helps with me.

Good luck xx

PS. I was a size 18, and managed to lose 3 stone with Weight Watchers (Ok, so I've put most of it back on now, but that's my fault, nothing at all to do with the slimming group!!  I simply stopped going - bad mistake!!)
- By Brainless [gb] Date 23.06.05 10:52 UTC
I can support what you say about joining a group.  I lost 5 1/2 stone last year with weight watchers went from 15 1/2 to 10 stone.

Unfortunately sicne Christmas I ahve regained 1 1/2 stone and found it hard to motivate myself into getting back on the wagon.

Started again on Monday and havew been sticking to it since Modnay (usually find if I can get through a whole week without going on a binge then I wills tick to it).

I should really go back to WW but I am a stingy so and so and need to get back to under 10st 10lb (within 5lb of target weight) so that I don't have to pay again!!

I recently bought the Paul MCkenna book "I can make you thin" which is based on self hypnosis and has a cd with it. I have lost 2 stone over the last year, but I need to get another stone off and have been struggling as I love food. I know I am always going to be at risk of putting it all on again, as :
1) I am a complete chocoholic.
2) I am afraid of lapsing into old ways when I get to my goal.
The book is BRILLIANT.
Since doing the self hypnosis thing I feel totally different about myself, and my relationship with food and the weight is dropping off. The system encourages you to eat slowly , stop when you are full etc, but since hypnosis I find that i am totally UNABLE to bolt my food like I used to! Also the book does a session on how to make yourself hate chocolate.....I did the session and now I cannot bear to think of the stuff! I really can't believe how well it is working! I think its well worth a shot, the book is just £6.
Good luck!

Sounds too good to be true!  I've seen that book before in the shops, but thought it would be a load of old rubbish - I'm obviously wrong!!  Glad it's working for you :)

By changing my eating habits and strengthening my will power I've lost 20lbs over the past six - nine months. I've deliberately taken it slow and steady to make sure that the weight stays off long term.
Whenever I feel tempted to stray off the path i ask myself 'What do I want more ? - a slim figure which allows me to wear almost anything, or a few moments of gastronomic indulgence which will pile on the pounds again'.  :)
No contest !

i have lost nearly 4 st with  weight watchers, and with this heat wave we have had its been great to wear shorts and t shirts, i do feel so much better, i love all food but in moderation, im going to italy in october, havent flown for about 30 years as i am a bit afraid but i am determined to go, so i need to lose another 2 st for my holiday, and i will

I can recommend the Holford Diet book - it explains how to lose weight, how the body works ( so looks at sugar, insulin, everything like that);  and how to avoid common problems such as putting weight back on after a diet.
It's excellent, Patrick Holford has been living his optimum nutrition policy for years now, and also advises people like Rosemary Conley :)

I've heard very good things about Paul Mackenna's book but not tried it. I lost half a stone on Rosemary Conley but put it back on. Holford is the one for me now :P

By the way, lots of peeps don't know that diets which contain a lot of protein can lead to Osteoporosis. Although they may allow plenty of dairy etc, the balancein the body means that calcium is excreted if there is too much protein. (eskimos have huge amounts of calcium, due to consuming fish bones, but have one of the highest rates of osteoporosis because, it is believed, they consume far too much actual protein).

Good luck to all those on diets! Not easy, is it!

Not easy at all Lindsay!  How I long to just 'throw in the towel' and scoff and kebab or a chinese tonight - it's a Friday night tradition isn't it?!  I got back on the scales last week at WW and found I'd lost 1 and a half pounds, which wasn't great (not for a first week back at serious dieting) but hey, it's better than putting it on!!!  Only 510 pounds to go!!!

Joke ;)

hi pinklilies,
I've got the paul mckenna book too but have never done the exercise to make me hate eating chocolate incase it works and I can never eat another bit again.  What did you think of to mix with the chocolate to make you not want to eat it again.  the only thing I could think of was poo as nothing else makes me want to heave!!!  Do you listen to it every day?  I find I get out the habit of doing it when I'm busy so tend to put it on when I'm in bed but I know what you mean about not bolting food.  i found that I'm always putting down my cutlery between mouthfulls without even thinking about it.
- By pinklilies Date 27.06.05 10:26 UTC
LOL cheekychow, I imagined mixing chocolate with custard. I have had a virtual phobia of custard since childhood, and i am retching now just typing the word! I STILL  haven't had any chocolate :D Currently I listen to it every other day.

i lost a stone after xmas, but then lapsed again.i weighed myself on monday & had put 3/4s back on, ive lost 1/4 of a stone this week,im drinking a;lot of water to detox & fill me up
- By fitbabe [au] Date 26.06.05 05:17 UTC
I lost 30kg (that's 66lb) 13 years ago by designing & following my own healthy eating plan - and I have never gained any of that weight back. It has to be an eating plan you can follow for life or you can't do it. Mine is one!
- By dapple [gb] Date 26.06.05 14:20 UTC
I've lost nearly 4 stone. ANother tip is to drink more water. Your body sometimes cannot differenciate between thirst and hunger so you eat when you are, infact, thirsty. Make sure you drink your 2 litres of water a day and your appetite will diminish naturally in any event!

I have a tip - NEVER go food shopping on an empty stomach!!
You dont bung so much of what you fancy in if your not actually hungry at the time :)
