Little Alf isnt ever so steady when he cocks his leg and generally pees all down his hind legs, which generally stinks a bit and also it will start damaging his coat when his fur gets longer.  I am assuming other people also have this problem (we had the same problem with the Afghans) what do you do to keep them smelling fresh and to stop the coat damage ?  the only thing I can think of is to stick him in the bath everyday to just wash the inside of his legs, seems a bit time consuming though :(

any ideas ?

I use a self rinsing shampoo on my youngest who has so much coat he always pees on a bit of it

One of my JSI's used to pee down his legs.  He was fairly short haired, and I found a quick rub down the legs with a couple of baby wipes did the trick :P

Moonmaiden, is self rinsing shampoo the same as dry shampoo ?

I do use wetwipes on him before he goes in the ring but his coat really is too long already for them to make much difference.

It's a light purple shampoo from Osmonds & you soak the coat in it & towel it off without rinsing & all the offending matter is left on the towel

Yes, I have just started to use something similar too. It's called Show Off. It's purple as well, and comes in a spray bottle, I got it from Hub at Border Union. Spray it on, lather it up between your fingers, then towel it off and either leave it to dry or blow dry it. Seems good so far.

That sounds like a simlar product very useful for dogs with poor aim like my boy ;)

I'm using it on a couple of bitches in season, (yankees in full coat).

Susan, Yankees are American cocker spanials.
they have about 5 times the coat of English cockers (well Beano deffinatly does!!!!!!!!)

Is the Show Off really good then i because if hettie produces a good buff bitch and i keep it it worried me about the coat when she comes in season. If its like it hettie though then it wont be as bad LOL two seasons in four years!!! typical the one you want in wont come in!

Fiona, show off is excellent on the setters, takes away any marks.  At 3 counties they managed to get grass stains while walking in and it lifted them easily so I guess it will be fine for bitches in season.  I woudln't know that one though because red and whites keep themselves ever so clean :D  All 3 bitches we have had have been spotless.  one of them was messy first season but she went really bad and didn't understand what was happening bless her! :(

Show off is also great on clothes.  Same techniquie and use it to remove mud stains from your clothes while at a show!!!!
