Well mum's Pom started labour a few hours ago but unfortunately 2 bags are stuck so it's a vet's job.  Please keep your fingers crossed.  My mum's been so looking forward to this. I hope all goes well for her.

Well two were born naturally eventually but the third was stuck.  Unfortunately the first one died, so mum's off to pick them up now.  Hope mum's OK with them after her C-section but hopefully due to her having two normally she might be more with it!

If anyone knows of any bitches that may help in rearing of the pups please contact me on

spanishwaterdogs@supanet.com   we are in the South Manchester area.

Mother doesn't want to know them but we will do our best and hopefully have a bitch ready if it comes to the crunch.

What time did she have the c-section?  Give her chance to wake up properly, she'll probably take to them when she's fully awake!

hi ,on another post there was a bitch who had a c-section she was rearly aggressive to the pups.so they had to keep the pups in a pet carrier so she couldnt get to them, just smell them!the vet told the owner there wasnt anything they can do.but 2/3 days later she the bestest mum she is to the pups!  apparently its common for the mother to be like this after a c-section something to do with a reaction to the anerstetic. give her time shele come around! good luck things will get better! :)

She was fully awake soon after the C-section, she's just not interested at all, but we will work hard and try and get there.  Been there before so fingers crossed.  Unfortunately toy breeds are a lot harder due to their termperature changes.  Will take over the feeding shortly :d

Just in case anyone's wondering I'm not givin up on the mother just getting everything sorted in case she decides that she definitely doesn't want them.  In a breed that is so hard you have to have every angle sorted :d

HI there.. My bitch had a c-section 13 days ago now. For the first 11 hours she was pretty much out of it..very groggy so she was ok with the pups or should I say maybe she didnt even register that they were there. After that she was very aggressive with them. I had to bottle feed for 2 days and keep them locked in the pet carrier. The vets told me that she was a lost cause and to just hand rear them. I eventually muzzled her and held her down with the help of 3 people and I plugged in pup by pup. Once they were sucking she was fine and has been ever since. Please dont leave them alone with her, I am not saying the same will happen but you never know..I am sure you are aware of this anyway. If she is not aggressive have you tried to get the pups to feed off her with you talking to her and reassuring her? Is the mum full of milk? I really think that having them suckel off her will help with her maternal instinct. I wish you all the best and I am sure she will come around given time...
Congratulations
Jodi

I have had Pom's for over 20 years and they won't be left alone.  They are big strong girls so we've got everything crossed.  Taken some photo's if anyone wants to see them :d  They are so tiny but sooooo cute :d

She's still being aggressive with them but she is sitting on my knee and allowing them to feed whilst on my knee and actually has cleaned them too, so not too bad at the moment!!  I've never seen any of our dogs be so lively before after a c-section she's been running around and eating like anything nearly as soon as she got home.

Thanks for everyone's good wishes.  Boy we all seem to be going through it this year don't we but it's great that there have been so many wonderful endings even with the bad starts.

To everyone who has puppy's I hope that they continue to do well.

Diane

That is excellent. She sounds like she will be fine. I hope I didnt offend with my comment about not leaving them alone....No offence meant whatsoever..

Just an up-date.  Pups are doing well, one's not quite as strong as the other.  They are still being bottle fed but mum has started taking to them now and they were put in with her yesterday and she was fine with them, so fingers crossed.

sorry to hear about the 1 you lost :( ,im just glad the remaning pup is doing ok and mum is looking after him/her now! :) have you picked a name for the little 1?
- By spanishwaterdog [gb] Date 27.06.05 10:38 UTC
No we've not picked a name.  We never do with them being such a heartbreaking breed until they are quite a few weeks old.  It just adds to the deep sorrow if you get them to a few weeks and have named them etc.

But the other girl does seem fine and is a greedy guts and mum is brilliant now.  The other one just seemd to lose weight within 3 hours it was such a shame as my mum had put in so much hard work and things looked as though they were going so well.  Don't think that we will be having any more after 26 long heartbreaking years I think that this has just thrown us to far from the breed.
