Hi,
Can anyone tell me how long roughly it will take to house train my new 11 week old puppy? I'm guessing it's like asking how long is a bit of string but i'm just looking for a guide, I am intending to use news paper to train her unless anyone can recomend a better option (or more affective)
Thanks
ROB
You are right Rob, it takes different pups different lengths of time to grasp the idea of toileting outside :D
Personally we don't use the paper, instead we instill the idea right from the very beginning. Young puppies need taking out after meals, drinks, immediately upon waking, after play or any other exciting activity such as someone coming into the house AND also every 20-30 mins throughout the day.
Take puppy outside, we carried Idõ until he was a bit older as he didn't have the control to hold 'it' until we got outside, and wait with them until they 'perform' then praise them, fussing and a treat. We also introduce a command word here, we use ''be quick'' but you can say anything really! Just as long as you use it each time :)
Using this method we had Idõ 'housetrained' in less than a week, of course there was accidents but they were our fault not his, and he was soon asking to go out by standing by the back door. We also use a crate which helps with housetraining, you can do a search as it been discussed LOADS of times :D
Hope this helps, good luck with your puppy, enjoy her while she's little-they grow up so fast!
