Is there any dalmatian experts out there that can can advise the best type of food to wean pups onto? There seems to be so many different types around, & its all very confusing. This is our first litter so obviously want to give the pups the right food to continue healthy growth. Thanks.
I think you will get lots of opinions on this but I start mine on a diet of scrambled eggs, rice puddings, weetabix and goats milk or evaporated milk, and fresh mince or tripe. When they are around 6 weeks old I start mine on James Wellbelloved puppy as i have found it one of the lowest protien foods for dalmatians. This is just my opinion but I dont have dogs with dally rash or stones forming touch wood ;) I am sure you will get other opinions though.

When I start weaning mine I begin them at three weeks on scraped raw beef - by the time they're 4 weeks they've progressed to minced beef. From then on I gradually try them with a little fish, a little chicken, etc. The best commercial food to wean them onto is the puppy version of the one you usually feed your bitch - if it suits her, it's likely to suit them. It's also a good idea to make it one that'll be fairly easy for the new owners to obtain.
:)
I usually start my pups on solid foodat about 2-3 weeks old. I use beta puppy and soakit in water to make it all slushy, then as they get older gradually make it firmer by the time they leave me they are eating there food completely dry. The pups are then fed on a good quality diet until 12 months old. And of course the pups get treats and human scraps in between meals to get them used to a variety of food.
