what is sm and how do i know if a puppy hasnt got it, where is the best place to get a puppy

Sorry, haven't got a clue, but my sister always calls ME sm (Susan Melody) so I just had to look

The best place to get a puppy is from a reputable breeder.Once you have decided on the breed you want contact the breed club who will tell you which health tests are required by the breed and give you details of reputable breeders with puppies available or due.

If you mean Syringohydromyelia(SHM) The only way to diagnose if a Labrador Retriever, Weimaraner, Fox Terrier, Lhasa Apso, Pomeranian, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. has SHM is by MRI scan & these can be done from 6 months of age onwards

All breeding dogs & bitches in breeds in which SHM is known to occur should be MRI scanned clear before being bred from & the parents, siblings & off spring of dogs with SHM should not be bred from. Even scanning only tells you if the dog has SHM not that it does not carry it however until there is a DNA test MRI scans are the only way to go
