Hi all

How can you get a dog to stop side winding in the ring? I have tried moving her on the other side but it doesn't work. Is it because we have had problems with her back as it was knocked out of joint? It has all been put back into place and is fine now. Is there any way to stop her side winding?

Hi Fiona, I have one that does it too, another Yankee as well. Mine will not move right if she's strung up, so I have her going on a loose lead and she's much better. The tendancy to it is still there, but she does it much less on the loose lead.

Fiona I've found Moya and maisie both sidewind when going at the wrong speed.  Try different speeds.  Also use a heavyish lead/chain and run her on a loose lead, have the lead stratically placed for it dangles by her face, it will knock her head over very gentle and push her away from you, if she is sidewinding towards you!

However if It's her back, then theres nothing you can do.  After a problem not everythign goes right even if she is fine in herself now.  Don't push her too hard.

Hi Dawn and Rox
I have losend her lead as she hates it tight, i dont push her hevily and i think i move at her speed its just when she moves of a lead shes totally fine so it could be the lead still, if so is a change of lead in order if so what to shes got one of the kindist i think.

i have just found out my picture and artical is hanging up in Bristol college and im shocked to say the least!

Have you not got a different varity of leads?  Could you not try differet ones?  I have a varity of leads in my show bag, orrignally one for each dog but at the moment all 3 dogs are being shown on the same lead! As that is what work's best.  (Poor handsome isn't shown and everyone else gets his lead!)

If you don't have varity ask some of the other people in poodles, try her on light ones and heaveir ones, thin one's thicker ones.  If she is fine off the elad they try a ultra lightweight one, and try running her some distance from yourself.  However if she's a vetren with a back problem do you really want to be pushing her so hard? :)

Hi
Thats the only one i have thats a buff lead and its fairly thick as i dont like thin ones.Im not willing to put heavy ones on her,i do like the look of the one Sarah Swigciski used on her buff dog the really thick one but i dont no where she got it! im not pushing her hard at all its only a few veteran classes a year at club shows! and she dosent have a back problem no more it had just clicked out of joint once.

thanks Fiona

Fiona OK don't try leads but it will work.  I have just found arnie works better on a chain, now I hate showing him on that chain because of him, but looks what he did today! :D

Try her on the blacks leads for now.  There's no rule saying about colour lead has to match dog, yes it enhances the dog but if she moves better on a black lead your happen to have...
- By f.a.brook [gb] Date 12.06.05 20:46 UTC
yes ok i will try it its abit wider than hers not alot but if it makes a diffrence then i no a thicker one is needed and maby ask sarah where she got it from!

thanks Fiona

good good :)  The lead makes all the difference!!!
- By f.a.brook [gb] Date 20.06.05 16:13 UTC
Yes so does this mean a bit thicker one will stop it more?

Fiona

Not always!

Sometimes it's the feel of the lead.  An even thicker one might make it worse, it might improve it.  It's always difficult to say.  Ours work better on a heavy chain, but try running them on their walking chains (which are twice as thick) and it doesn't help the problem!

Oh right this lead had a really nice feel to it, i got ed one as well as i liked them so much and the best thing was they were only £4 each :)

It was me.  My hair is not noticable.  It's the common style of short, spiky back and straight fringe! I haven't dyed it orange yet fiona!!!! :D

So yes it was me you saw (gettin last! :D )

Edit: Fiona it's not blond anymore!  The blond is all grown out, back to my boring dull mousey brown colour (although hairdressers say's it's a nice colour it's being dyed for richmond!
- By ClaireyS Date 20.06.05 17:01 UTC
Yes it was you, you werent showing you were sat at the edge of the ring with two people who I assume were you parents watching the challenge.  I recognise your dad, I think he was photographing the red and whites at camberley :)
- By ice_queen Date 20.06.05 17:32 UTC
Oh my dad takes pictures everywhere.  I'm entering him into KC photographer of the year!!  He takes some great photo's (better then some so called pros!!!) :D He strated taking pictures for a website and from there has got better and better (more expensive!) cameras and can often be found dreaming of taking photo's like nick riddly!!!  LOL Well he are letting him take photo's for fundraising....

I could have been sitting with anyone at that point.  I think I was between my mum and our youngest girls breeder.

Thanks fiona for reminding me my hairs curly at times, and before you say yes it's ultra bad in the mornings!!!!!!!  I am aware of that!!!

It's going with a dark brunette or brunette with blond streaks!  I will not be going orange just yet!
- By f.a.brook [gb] Date 20.06.05 17:02 UTC
Hi Rox you mean the front is supost to be straight!! sometimes its a tad wavey lol so Rox does that mean you are going to dye it orange for richmond?? well clash! and the hairdresser is having a nice day lmao, That must have been her dad then as i no he has been doing some nice pictures of red and whites!!! shame he cant do a yank!
