this morning my bitch who is on day 64 had a temp of 100.5 it has been like this for a few days since i took her temp .. now it is 99.8,, is this too high to class as being in first stages?? ..as she is showing alot of other signs she is extremley restless,, panting,, digging,, licking and staring at her back end alot.. also her stomach seems to have gone huge over the last few hours ..just wondering if i should be preparing for a sleepless night or not ??

I took the temp religiously this time but really was none the wiser at all as it kept going up and down all the time. I would have said though that being on day 64 and behaving as she does, you will have that sleeples night wih your girl. :) Of coruse, it could still be another 36 hours or so, but best to keep an eye on her as you never know! Good luck!!

thnx ive just recently checked her tummy and its gone rock hard .. i can actually feel a pup very close down to her nether regions that wasnt there this morning .. but she seems to have calmed down quite abit from earlier on ..she is even sleeping in the whelping box now which she hasnt done all week .. only other problem im having is that she doesnt like being away from the other dogs and keeps whining at the door but i cant let her out as my other bitch keeps attacking her :( i just hope her getting stressed over being away from them isnt going to affect her whelping :(

Perhaps she is whining at the door because she thinks she needs to wee/poo and wants to go outside?
They can do this for several hours in early stages as they are not sure what is happening.
It's a good idea to keep all other dogs ( or bitches ) out of her way so she can come and go as she feels necessary without interference.
Good Luck, sounds like things are well on the way.
Tracey.

It is too high BUT the temp drops down to nearer 98 then sharply rises.

If you take the temp 3 times day at the same time over 3-4 days you will see the drop that stays down for a little while ( 8-12 hours) then it sharply rises. Puppies are born soon after.

I have taken the temp with good results everything except one emergency section which was a week early and not normal circumstances.

well very quickly since my last reply .. she has just had a gush of water ... so i take it as this is things on the move .. i didnt expect it so quickly,,  i know she hasnt peed as she is very well housetrained and wont do anything in the house .. also i checked her straight away and her back end was soaked.. she is now sat in her whelping box panting and staring straight ahead

Good Luck !!  Very exciting.  I just had a litter 2 nights ago.  i'm starting to recouperate a little, very litte :)  She whelped 64 days from her last breeding !  67 from the first.  It's wonderful to see those pups peacefully nursing and very humbling.

Can't wait to hear what happens next

hi all thanks for all your nice wishes .. seems the panic is off for now as she has calmed down completely .. and has been asleep most of the night ....have spoken to the vet and he says not to worry as it could still be hours yet b4 she starts to give birth .. he's going to pop out in morning and check her over just to be safe if nothing happens before then
will keep you all posted :)
