I am Looking After a bullmastiff bitch for a friend who is in hospital on 11/6/ she give birth to nine lovely pups but she is not a good mum she had eaten 2pups before I took them away from her, I have to hold her down  so I can feed them but she has very little milk. The vet told me to hand raise them on lactol which I have started today they are 7 days old now and I only have 4 left,I found out today that this happend with her last litter they all died before two weeks I dont think that she should have been bred from but then again she is not my dog I just want the pups to stay alive .........  HELP ME SOMEONE

The puppies will need topping and tailing to make them go to the toilet, this has to be done after every feed ;)  Don't worry about keeping them warm in hot weather, if they are all spread out they are too hot, they should be snuggled up together ;)  perhaps a hot water bottle with chilled water in it under their bedding would help but make sure they can sleep off it too if they want to.

Why not join CD and take advantage of the wealth of experience from breeders on the site, they will be able to give excellent advice and help you care for these babies and their mum :D and its FREE !!

Also if you weigh them and they are gaining weight she will be producing enough milk, sometimes they look like they have little milk and if you squeeze the teats little comes out, but the pups will paddle with their paws to draw the milk down .

Good luck
Sarah

Guest,

There is a good thread on the Breeding Board about a bitch who wouldn't accept her pups at first, you might find it enlightening :D
