Lara, Mari is in Ireland, and it is quite common practice, as it is in USA, and I would guess other countries too, for breeders to vaccinate their own dogs.

It wasn't the actual vaccinating that I was querying - it was the falsifying of certifications afterwards by a qualified veterinary surgeon (or so I thought!!!)

Lara, it would be one thing for a vet to sign a vaccination certificate for a new client, but I don't think there is a lot wrong with a long standing, experienced and trusted client giving the vaccination and asking the vet to sign against the stickers in case the dogs have to be kenneled (if that is what happens?)

Sharon - I can see your point but if you want to kennel your dogs then you will have to have the vaccination done by a vet. ALL the breeders I know never kennel their dogs. But if a vet signs a vaccination form for anyone other than another veterinary surgeon then they are in breach of their codes of
conduct. We'll have to differ on this :)

You're right Lara - its never arisen in practise for me :-). For 10 or more years Ian and I didn't have a holiday together at all. We both went home to Northern Ireland, but at different times, and that was quite good because it meant double the time for elderly parents. Then we realised that things were getting a bit stale, and discovered Donegal and pet-sitters :-). Definitely agree to differ, and I agree that you're correct in the strict letter of the law. No hard feelings I hope :-).

Barbara is correct about Vaccinations in the US. Many breeders and those who have more than 1-2 dogs, do their own vaccinations. Some States do not recognize the rabies vaccinations, unless a vet co-signs or performs it him/herself. Those are the States where Vet supplies will not ship vials to private individuals. It seems to be fairly organized. But I've never done it, since it's just as easy to find a good reputable low-cost vet wherever I've lived. :)

I believe I seem to remember something a long time ago about there being "live " vaccines and "dead" vaccines. I may be wrong but its worth a call to your vets to check out, as your dog may be allergic to one but not the other.

This has kept us up all last night, we really don't want her to have the vaccination. We have already booked in a B&B in Ingleton, N.Yorkshire, but have to check whether they accept dogs, I don't think they do, anyway I shall find out and if needs be I am going to search for somewhere that does accepts Dogs, anyone know of anywhere.?
I know I may sound over protective but I can't bear the thought that she may go through that awful situation again.

May be if the B & B you have booked doesn't they could/would recommend somewhere that does? Or they would be willing to give you the local tourist board number to ask them?
I'll have a look in some dog mags I have to see if there is anything. Don't want to appear like I'm latching on to you but if my dog couldn't stop with my friend when we go away then we wouldn't. We have only ever put him in kennels for one day/night and NEVER again:D So I sort of know where you are coming from.
I know you don't know me but I wasn't joking about her coming here, email me if you like. (Not sure I can cope with 5 though:D)

I had a fantastic homeopathic vet in Oxfordshire and he assured me that my dog did not need any injections from the age of 10, as he was sure she was fully immune. He said how often do we need to be immunised and he is right we only have polio etc once don,t we? Anyway there is a homeopathic alternative if going into kennels who will accept it and quite a few do. Cheers Jane

We are still debating as to what to do for the best, I have a feeling that I may be staying behind, whilst the rest of the Family go to the Wedding!!
Still we talking and not arguing about it, I will let you know the outcome.
Thank you all for you contributions and advice, as always very helpful.
Cheers :)
