hi ive taken an interest in a stud dog which has just got a bitch pregnant but when looking up the bitch i see she had pups in jan this year and  is due pups again in 7 weeks is this normal for a bitch to have pups so close to the last ? im worried about this bitch

I suppose it depends on what you mean as normal.  Responsible breeders who care for the welfare of the bitch and the pups would normally have at least a year and preferably two between litters.  The stud dog owner is also responsible here and should not be party to breeding this frequently from a bitch ;)

If the bitch had only a small litter, for a large breed and the stud dog was only going to be in this country for  a short will, would it be passable for the bitch to be mated at the next season and then left for 18 months, If the bitch is very fit and health.

I was asked this question in the last few days and have been mulling it over, going round in circles, maybe someone will give advice.

I would only consider it if it was a singletone pup and the bitch had longer than 6 monthly cycles.

Mine often don't come in season until 6 months after the litter are born so that would give 8 or more months before next litter so with single pup and young fit bitch I would consider it, if the dog may be too old or otherwise unavailable.  Otherwise why niot wait one more season.

Sorry I thought you couldn't register the litter unless there was more than a year between matings.Surely a litter so close to the last would then have unregistered pups, buying a pup would make then uneligible for show or future breeding.Or am I wrong?

You can register them within a year now.  I must admit although I left 18months/2years between my bitches litters while I recovered her litters were smallish and she never losts any condition, not ever her coat! so I really think she would have taken it in her stride if for some reason I had felt I wanted to breed her within the year.  Of course I doubt any bitch could take that sort of thing repeatedly but I thing individually some of them would emerge totally unharmed and I think it is in recognition of this that the KC dropped their restriction for unregistered breeders.

although it is not a total no no for a bitch to have another litter this quickly I think in MOST circumstances it is unneccessary.I would be very cautious and ask plenty of questions of the owner based around the info given in previous posts.
I was also under the impression that the breeder had to get a letter from the vet saying the bitch was ok to have a litter this quickly to send to the KC...or has this changed too?
If you decide to purchae one of the pups I would strongly suggest that you obtain a signed letter stating that the pups are KC registered if the papers are not ready when you collect the pup. Also make sure they are KC papers and not any other registries since some breeders who mate bitches too often alternate the registrations to make it look better on them and the other registration papers aren't worth the paper they are written on
