If your bitch is in season now you've left it too late I'm afraid. By the time you've looked around and found a dog you like, checked pedigrees to see if the lines gel or taken advice if you don't have that knowledge, carried out the necessary health checks you will be far too late. This is now the ideal time to start thinking about the next season. Study lines, visit shows and make a short list of what you like. Talk to the stud dog owners and get an idea of the pedigrees involved. Talk to your breeder and get his or her view of your short list. The breeder will, if they really know their lines know of possible problems of mixing certain lines. When all this is sorted check your own dog and your favoured stud dog’s health checks are up to date. Get an agreement with the stud dog owner to use their dog and then you can relax until the big day content in the knowledge that you have done all possible to produce good strong healthy puppies.
