Try teaching him colours. blue ball red ball etc. or shapes, square block, round block, triangle etc. As with most training, voice changes depict what is required, not the word, so he may associate a softer tone with the square, adifferent tone for round etc.
Why don't you take up agility or flyball?
He already does agility on a Tuesday night i have a agility course set up in my garden but he's getting board of it. Ill definately give the shape/colour thing a try should be fun for me even if it doesnt ammuse him lol.

What about counting? Only up to 5 though... or even 10 if he's clever!
A friend of mine has taught her dog to speak on command how many fingers she holds up.
e.g.
hold up 4 fingers, dog barks 4 times... hold up 2 fingers, dog barks twice etc.
Try this book
"The trick is in the training" by Stephanie J Taunton & Cheryl S Smith ISBN 0-1641-0492-6 available from Amazon.co.uk
It gives a step by step instruction using photos.
my god where do you start; bow, roll over, twists, how about heelwork to music, targeting using clicker training etc etc etc

What about tracking, sendaways, walking backwards spinning to left and right, weaving between your legs, going to sleep, high five, praying, standing on back legs, size discrimination, scent discrimination, agility, flyball, shutting a door, opening one, getting a drink from the firdge, tidying away toys, crossing his legs when he lays down, playing dead.............
I like th going to sleep one, that could be very usefull lol. Ill try out a few of those and see which he picks up easily enough. Thanks loads for all your ideas.
