Hello, I have a 2 year old English Springer and am considering letting him become a daddy.  Can anyone give me some advice on the matter? He is black and white and has a full pedigree.  He is from working stock and is a fantastic dog, we would love for him to father pups as he has loads of fab attributes to pass on to the spaniel gene pool!
thanks

This is the answer I just gave you in your post as a guest:-
Have a look at the first post in the Breeding section which will give you the low down on using your dog at stud.  Unless you are trialling him or working him in areas where bitch dogs owners get to admire his working attributes it is unlikely you will be approached.  It is the bitch dogs owers that get to choose and there are plenty of dogs to make their choice from.  If you are approached they will of course expect him to have all the recommended breed health test carried out and certified by relevant experts.  The breed club will be able to advise you which tests are demanded in their code of ethics.
Has he been hip scored or eye tested yet?

Have read of the first post on the 'Breeding' forum of this site.

Also he'll need to have passed all the breed-relevant tests for hereditary conditions (a general health check by your GP vet is not sufficient).
