Jake is a 7yr old Rottweiler/collie cross and recently has seriously started trying to mount my male Yellow Lab Harvey. Harvey just ignores him and lets him try to climb on until he gets fed up then he just walks away. Jake went through a spate of this about 12 months ago but it didn't last long. It's lasting longer this time. Both males are neutered so why is he suddenly doing this...please help it's most embarrassing when we have visitor...

This is fairly normal dog behaviour, and especially so in my expoereince with spoayed bitches, maybe neutered males have the smae confusion/issues, or they jdut palin enjoy it as their entire brethren do?
It is often not sexual but about dominance or excitement. Mine do this quite often even when none of the girls are in season.

I have read that this can be a dominance issue too and not sexual
I believe myself it can be a dominance thing luicy my westie will some times to it to my bullmastiff when they are playing, with girls though they can also do it when they are coming in season to, although you wont be having that problem.

Dogs, and bitches, whether neutered or entire etc will all often do this for various reasons, mostly because they are overexcited in play etc

It's a strange thing - my neutered dog mounts an entire, male lab regularly. My dog doesn't do this to any other dog. Oddly, a friend's neutered, male dog has also mounted the same lab (and friend's dog never mounts any other dog). :)

My westie Luicy does this to every dog what comes into this house hold, although she does have a chip on her shoulder especially with big dogs. Mind you the same thing used to happen with smaller horses when i used to work with them there used to be this 12 hands pony called ringo and he used to try and mount 16.2s on riding lessons. I do beleive that theory though in every species the smaller the animal it has a chip on it's shoulder, even though it's irrelivant to this post.

I would suggest that the lab's owner gets him checked out - possible prostate problems, or an infection?

Yes dogs are very attracted and confused when they semll any infection on another dog.
My 15 month old Bichon does this to other dogs and tries on arms etc. Usually after mad run around/ play, and is when over excited rather than sexual.
My 9wk old GD pup does it to my golden retriever when their playing and my aunts bull terrier used to do it to him too.
Maybe its because his so pretty they think his a girl! lol :)
My Collie X GSD used to do this to other dogs in the park. I would agree that its a dominance thing.
