This is probably a daft question, but are there any plants that are dangerous to dogs? My pup Toby (9wks tomorrow) has been having great fun over the last couple of days exploring the garden, and he seems to be taking a particular interest in wanting to chew all my plants (not to mention weeds <blush>)! I'm not especially garden-proud and know its just his natural curiosity about his new environment, but I just had a terrible thought that he might explore something a little too vigouressly and it might harm him in some way. Am I worrying un-necessarily? As usual, all advice welcome. :)

Blimey! That's a scary list of plants! I don't *think* I have anything classed as dangerous in the garden, but first thing in the morning I'll be out there double checking (and removing the offending species if need be). Many thanks.

yes loads; as I discovered when got my puppy include but not exclusively - yew, hellibours, lupins, laburnum, ivy.  The RHS may help if you have query over a specific plant.  I had to wrap the yew up with thick plastic as my pup seemed very attracted to this in particular.  He has now grow out of the eat everything phase but I still keep a careful watch when he is out.

We have just removed our hosta plant yesterday as my westie pup ate a black slug or a snail which these plants attract and he ended up in the vets on a drip for 2 days with gastroentaritus which the vet says was most probably caused by eating something from this plant.so I would be carefull when your dogs out in the garden (especially if you dont want a huge vet bill like mine) (thank god for pet insurance!!!)
