Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Dilated Cardiomyopathy in Flatcoats

I've a 6yr old dog that's been diagnosed as having FDCM. His condition has been stabilised with 'Vetmedin' (pimobendan) but my vet can't give any prediction of life expectancy because of lack of info relating to Flatcoats.

I'd like to hear from anyone who has experience of this condition/medication in Flatcoats

Thanks

Hi,
Have you tried asking this on the flatcoats message board? http://www.yahoogroups.com/flatcoats or email me privately foxpath4@yahoo.com

Hello
Afraid I can't help, as I've not come across this personally in flatcoats. I believe it can be a secondary effect due to exposure to infection - maybe something like parvovirus.
I think it's found more often in large breed like Great Danes and Wolfhounds. There is a good site on
http://members.nbci.com/wolfhounds/health.htm linking to hearts.

If it is controlled by the drug, enjoy your dog as much as you can within the limits of his ability!

Kind Regards
Jo and the Casblaidd Flatcoats
