Hi  -  does anybody know whether there is such a person who would come to whelp your litter at home for you,  or is there a very experienced breeder on this list who has the time and could do it?  Any information would be much appreciated.  If you would like to reply to me direct my email addy is: lewie1624@yahoo.co.uk. 

You'll often find the presence of a stranger when a bitch is whelping does more harm than good. Obviously if there's an emergency you'll need the vet, but otherwise they're best with only a familiar person keeping a discreet eye on the proceedings.

Hi Jeangenie  -  Yes, I am aware of those points, and there will in fact be an adult person with the bitch whom she knows extremely well.  It's just that that person has never whelped a litter before and has no idea of what is involved in caring for a newly born litter.  I am in West Yorkshire.  Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I'm a human midwife, and my dogs have had two litters now.  In my experience it is best to leave them to it, be with them but trust them.  I keep the lights down and have soft music playing.  Keep them calm as possible and only intervene if necessary - works well on humans too!!!

I have a bitch that whelped 2 nights ago.  This was her second litter.  If I didn't do everything, sac , cord, etc etc  they would have all died.  she would just sit there after they came out.  She is a wonderful mother though.  It's as if she said, "you got me into this now take care of it" :)
