I have never showed any inclination to show my bitch but have been told many times she is a nice looker etc by people in the know. (Thats not the main reason)
I perhaps suffering from finding a nice little hobby for myself and thinking showing her would be a great opportunity to have some fun (she's a good show off) whether she wins or not i don't even care its good for us i feel.
But i was told due to her being spayed i am at a disadvantage? i thought all i had to do at the most was notify the KC of this and away we go?
Can anyone clarify this for me? she wasn't done for medical reasons purely personal.

Yes, all you have to do is inform the KC (there's a form you can download from their website) and that's all there is to it.

Thank you Miss Jean would the judges know that she has been spayed? Is it something i have to tell them as a matter of rountine?

You don't have to tell them, I've shown two spayed bitches(still occassionally show one of them) and have never been asked or needed to show my letter I got from the KC when I informed them.
HTH and good luck with your girl

When I've shown a spayed bitch (in the past - I don't show now) I was never asked. The letter the KC sent me didn't say I needed to.

Application form.

I am very sorry for all the questions maybe i have had dubious advice, but i was told to keep quiet and not say anything which i accpeted because believe it or not i really do not care if we win one iota or not, but then i was told if i do win anything and it becomes 'known' that she has been spayed i would be stripped of anything i have ever won?

It really is not a major deal to me to show on a spectacular level more of a fun day out and a relief from normal daily activities BUT if i did win i really don't want as a novice to be shown up as an example if you know what i mean nor do i want to lie. Thank you very much i will let the KC know more to put my mind to rest that i am doing the right thing.

As far as I'm aware all you are required to do is inform the KC, they keep a record of this and, I think, if your dog ever gets their stud book number then the fact that he/she is neutered would be put next to their name.....not sure about this tho :D

I don't go around telling all and sundry that my girls are neutered, mst people assume that show dogs are entire but I only show my girl at open show level and she hasn't done any big winning but is half way to her ShCM so not too bad.

You are not obliged to tell anyone you don't want to...apart from the kc that is!!!

Iwan, never be afraid to ask questions!

Many years ago a neutered animal would only get permission to be shown if it already had progeny registered with the KC. Then about 20 years (maybe a few more) years ago that clause was dropped, and all you had to do was inform the KC that it had been done and permission was automatically granted. No reason for the surgery had to be given - just the vet's statement was enough.

There's honestly no need to keep quiet about it - just tell the KC and leave it at that.
