Hi all,
The behaviorist has jus left after spending a few hours with my dog, and she has given us some wonderfull advise and better ways to reprimand him when he is naughty. i feel much safer now i know that this form of reprimand works! he hasnt bit yet but i know what to do now when he does. :-) we have also been told to take him off dog food and put him on natural foods wich she says will help so i will try that.
Thanks so much evryone for your help and support!! xxxxxxxxxx
I'm so pleased for you, keep us updated on how things are going. I will sleep sounder now! :-)

Good to hear things are looking up for you and you've managed to have a behaviourist assess your pup. Please remember to keep yourself safe at all times though when following whatever regime you've been given.
Fingers crossed that your next up-date will be even more positive. Good luck, Teri :)
Was this a behaviourist from Barkbusters by any chance? Just wondered....

Delighted to hear the good news. No matter how much we love our dogs, human safety must be paramount. Please keep us updated and best of luck :)

Excellent, I've been following your other post and I'm glad to hear things are improving. What is the reprimand, out of curiosity?
Hi,
we were reccomended bark busters but we went for a lady who was reccomanded to us instead. whats wrong with bark busters? are they nasty :-( i hope not. the reprimand is a deep voice and shaking this pebble thing wich makes a noise he dosent like but he is actually responding to my voice wich is wonderfull!

We have used Barkbusters and didn't have a problem with them. Some suggestions were a little harsh but on the whole it was good advice i thought. I would be interested to know what other people's opinions are though.
So, hows it going then? I know we are all interested. Is he getting better now.
Hi,
He still has the odd time he decides to bite etc, but on the whole he is better, and he listens to me a lot more, like before he would only do tricks or what i said if i had a treat, but now he comes when i call him and sits and everything! weve still got a long way to go but he is certainley better.
i got so worried the other day as he was out the front of the house with no lead or coller on, as he dosent go off the drive . but he saw some people so decided to go say hello, i paniced and thought he was going to bite them, but he trotted up, wagged his tail and licked the man, he didnt even jump up or anything!

Hi, I read all your posts about your dog and it so reminded me of when I was about 14 myself and had a dog that acted the same way. I too was said to have a natural touch for dogs and my other dog was very well adjusted but sadly Vannessa wasn't. I really hope it works out for you because in my case it didn't. I stuggled for 7 years with her behaviour and attacks, then I decided I couldn't anymore. Because she starting showing aggesstion towards our tiny dog which she never had before, if it wasn't for that i think I'd of kept her. I did love her very much and she could be a lovely dog, she was smart and well trained. I still don't know why she attacked me (health reasons were checked so too donimnce problems). I gave her up to battersea dogs home when I was 17 years old in the end - I couldn't bare to be the one to say put her to sleep. I had the vain hope that she would be diffrent with other people or maybe they could train it out of her. I phoned to see how she was every day and on the thrid day they told me they put her to sleep. I cried the house down.
I'm sorry if I've hi-jacked your post to tell everyone my sob story but your story brought all the pain back. *sigh* I often pretend I never had her as I blame myself because I got her from a petshop (I wasn't imformed back then). I always say I've only had two dogs and miss her out. I just needed to vent about it now.
PS. The likeness of our stories are quite amazing because I too was teached at home. Also i do have socal phobia and acrophobia. Good luck my dear! Please do keep us informed as I really want to see what happens!
We all learn from what we think are our mistakes, but it is just another learning curve. Without them we would never learn. Good Luck to all who think they have made what they think of as mistakes. Time if not a healer is a helper in the end.
Hi all,
I know this is of no relevance to my post, but im very pleased with myself today! As i have social phobia etc i hate phoning people. but today i phoned the rspca, as there is 2 dogs i was worried about that live with some gypsies, and they dont look after the dogs at all, they are right by the main road, they live outside, and i have never once seen them bieng fed or looked after.
so i complained about them and the rspca are going to check the dogs out :-):-), as i said, i know this is nothing to do with my post, but im glad ive done it, maybe helping the poor terrier and alsation. and for once my dog stayed quiet the whole time i was on the phone! normally all you can hear if your on the other end is a deep woof woof woof! and he hasnt bit me in a while too!!:-)
so fingers crossed!
Just a thought,
Does anyone know how to get him to go walks? he point blank refuses to go :-(
i would take him to the park but im scared of people and dogs that i don't know.
He is starting to look rather podgey!
