Do any of you have some good hints on how to quiet your intact males when you have bitches in season?
Thanks

Yes, dont keep entire males and females in the same household!!!
Good advice Dedlin!!!!!!! All joking aside that is probably the only way for you to keep them quite....
Jodi

Many people find the only remedy is to put the dog into kennels or have him stay with friends for the duration.

If you are seperating them by kenneling the dog outside then you will be better kenneling the bitch outside and keeping the dog in with you with plenty of distractions, more walks etc.
Even so it can be very trying when a male knows a bitch is in season.
NEVER LET THEM IN THE SAME PART OF THE GARDEN to toilet. This is quite cruel as every time he smells the bitches uring he will know how far along she is and get more upset and frustrated.
A freind of mine takes her dog into the front garden when she has bitches in season, and the bitches aren't allowed there at all.
This is one reason I keep only bitches.
My boy always goes to stay with the dragon-in-law, sorry MOTHER-in-law..........lol. when my girls are in season! It wouldn't be fair to keep him in the same household, he would completely stress himself out and probably make himself ill!

I read some where (can't remember at the minute where)that you should not send the bitch away to be kenneled, and that it is better to send the male away. Can i ask why you think it is best to send the bitch? :) As i can't remember what the story was as it was ages ago. Thanks

Could be that most people would want to be sure that no chances were being taken with their bitch. Be awful to send her away and find some keenl maid made a mistake and let her out with a male.
I'd never send an in season bitch away - I'd be in an absolute panic for the next few weeks just incase anything had happened :p

I think Brainless is meaning you put the bitch in your
own (secure) kennel outside, not send her to boarding kennels. By doing this you're not having her filling the house with the scent of her season.

Sorry, i did read it wrong, now i have read it again it,it does read how you say Jeangenie.Need to read things properly in future, sorry again

No probs! I tend to skim-read too! ;)

Also your veruy good ant interpreting my posts :D
I understand . This morning I sent him over to my mothers house. I don't think she is happy though and didn't realize he would be there for a while. I was hoping there might be another alternative. I have a litter due any time now but I don't think I can keep the males if they are going to be as worked up as he is. His father was also like this. I'm wondering if it is just him that he is quite so crazy.
I'm stressed because my girl is taking so long to whelp , she did this last time also.
she is 65 days from the first and 62 from the last breeding. she tricked me a couple of days ago. she whelped 64 days from the last breeding her first time and lost the first puppy so I am nervous. Sorry, I guess this is another topic :)
I have an intact male with my females, vet offered injection for girls to stop them coming into season I had one girl injected and it has changed her personality. She is now a grumpy weary depressed dog and so no more injections for my girls so the vet has offered a series of injections for my male I haven't tried this yet.Does anyone know of this type of injection for males has anyone tried it????

Don't bother with Tardak, it's £30 down the drain. I had it ONCE for my boy and it didn't make any difference infact I think he was worse! Kennelling him or sending him away to family/friends is the best option!

This may sound daft, but if you are not planning to use your entire male at stud why not have him castrated.
I have 2 males (both castrated) and never have any problems when my bitch is in season, one of them is mildly interested, but nothing more.
I'm not sure what the injection is called, the vet called it chemical castration. I have used this dog as stud for my girls and was hoping to again as he is stunning and his temperament is faultless.

Then it is Tardak. As far as I am aware it works on some dogs and not on others. I think Ice Queen said she gives it to her dog on the first day of their bitches season and it works for them.
