Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / English Bull Terrier not eating properly
- By Guest [gb] Date 13.06.05 19:10 UTC
Hope someone on here can help, my 10 month old english bull terrier is not eating his usual diet of fresh meat and biscuits. At times, he is physically attempting to turn over his food bowl with his nose. The breeder suggested i feed him sausages etc. by hand for a short while as he needs to put weight on.
Hope you can share your advice as i am beginning to get a bit worried.
Thanks Jane

Take him the vet and get him checked over, especially if he's loosing condition.

Warm regards Susan

I would think that by what you say he isn't hungry. It sounds as if he is trying to bury his food.I would however get him checked by a vet first and then if hes ok I would reduce his feeds and give him no treats.I would also not leave his feed down for more that 5 minutes.By hand feeding him you will encourage him to become fussy...don't do it

Hi I have English Bull terriers. How often is your boy being fed? Is he still on his breakfast?
You state that he is on fresh meat and biscuits what else does he have. You can email me if you like and I'll send you a diets sheet. Is he your first bully? Sorry for all the questions but I need to build up a picture as Bullies can be more stubborn than other breeds.
Cheers Ellie

Bull Terriers often go through this stage.
The worst thing you can do is hand feed him - BT's are very clever in the art of training their owners!!
Give him his dinner, if he walks away from it or plays with it take it away from him and leave it until the next meal......... no treats NOTHING!
I went through hell with my first bitch not eating until I was told not to offer her anything apart from water for 24 hours, I thought it was a bit mean but tried it........ she is now 10 and has since eaten every bit of food offered!!!
Maybe adding some fruit and veg to his diet will make him more excited about eating, Bullies normally love a good mixture to eat.
